about counselling
Person Centred Counselling was pioneered by
Dr. Carl Rogers, a psychologist, in the 1930s and 1940s
and can
also be called Humanistic Counselling.
Counselling is about being accepted rather than judged
or criticised. It is not about being given advice or
told what to do.
One to one counselling aims to provide a warm, safe,
confidential space in which you can disclose personal
issues, problems, thoughts and feelings. This can offer
a safe way to deal with painful emotions and can help
you face the blocks that occur in your life and understand
where they come from.
Counsellors listen with empathy and understanding, helping
you to explore what troubles you and identify and overcome
the things that are holding you back. This
provides an opportunity to develop your own answers and
find more effective ways of coping and to help you understand
your feelings better.
Counselling can be effective for many of life’s
difficulties including: surviving childhood sexual, physical
and emotional abuse, bereavement, relationship difficulties,
anxiety, stress, depression, family or cultural difficulties,
to name but a few.
As your counsellor, I will work with you through any
issues, relationships, thoughts and feelings that may
be causing you concern. I will strive to establish a
relationship built on honesty, openness and mutual respect.
It is important to me, that I experience your world through
your eyes, to best understand how this impacts on you. |
